AFTER YOUR CONSULT

Here’s What You Need

From what starting treatment actually looks like, to how financing works, to how we’ll keep you updated on appointments and other reminders—here’s your step-by-step guide to what’s next.

Why Choosing a Board Certified Orthodontist in Rancho Santa Fe Matters

—A note from Dr. Melanie

“Every Smile I see is different—and honestly, that’s my favorite part of this job. What we put together for you at your consult wasn’t pulled from a template. It’s based on your bite, your bone structure, your goals, and your life. I want you to feel confident that you’re in the right place. If you have questions, just ask. We mean that.”

1.

Your Treatment Plan is 100% Yours —
Not a Package

During your consult, Dr. Melanie reviewed your iTero digital scan, X-rays, and photos to develop a plan tailored to you. This isn’t a “pick braces or Invisalign” cookie-cutter approach. Your recommendation is based on your actual anatomy, bite, and goals, and it can always be revisited if your priorities change.

When it comes to braces, we use the most advanced technology available to make treatment simpler and more convenient than ever before, Digital Indirect Bonding.

2.

Starting Is Easier Than You Think

Here’s the good news: your records are already done. We took everything we need at your consult visit, which means your next appointment is your start appointment.

Bonding braces or picking up your first aligners typically takes about 60–90 minutes, and most appointments after that are just 20–30 minutes every 6–10 weeks. We also offer same-day starts if you’re ready to go!

3.

We’ll Make the Financial Piece Easy

We know orthodontic treatment is an investment, and we want you to feel good about it. We accept most PPO insurance plans, and we're proud to offer in-house payment plans with zero interest to help keep your orthodontic care within your budget.

For families with multiple kids in treatment, we also have sibling discounts. Our financial coordinator will walk you through every option with no pressure and no surprises.

4.

The First Couple Weeks: What to Expect

There is usually a 3- to 5-day adjustment period after you start treatment. It tends to feel more like soreness than pain as your teeth begin to move. Over-the-counter pain relievers, soft foods, and a little patience usually go a long way.

We will send you home with a care kit, and you can text us anytime if something feels off. Most patients find the adjustment easier than they expected.

5.

We Watch Your Progress Even Between Visits

We use the Grin remote monitoring app so Dr. Melanie can check in on your progress between appointments. You can take a quick scan at home with your phone, send it through the app, and our team will review it in real time. This helps reduce unnecessary trips to the office and lets us catch small issues before they turn into delays.

Why Board Certification Matters

Dr. Melanie is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontists. Board certification shows that Dr. Melanie has gone beyond the standard requirements to practice orthodontics. It means she completed extra testing, submitted real patient cases for review, and continues her education to maintain that certification.

For patients and parents, that matters because it reflects a higher level of commitment to clinical skill, judgment, and long-term care.

What Board Certification Requires

  • Passing written and clinical oral exams after residency

Why Dr. Melanie

Here’s what you won’t find at most practices in San Diego:

Why Choosing a Board Certified Orthodontist in Rancho Santa Fe Matters

🎓

A Board-Certified Specialist
(Not a General Dentist)

Orthodontics is all Dr. Melanie does. She is a board-certified orthodontic specialist who completed dental school and additional orthodontic residency training focused specifically on this field.

ðŸ“ą

Monitoring Between Visits
(Not Just At Them)

Most orthodontic treatment includes check-ins every several weeks, but Dr. Melanie also uses Grin remote monitoring to review progress between appointments. That means closer oversight, fewer surprises, and a better chance to catch small issues early.

âœĻ

Digital Everything —
Including a Preview of Your Smile

Dr. Melanie uses iTero digital scanning to create a precise 3D model of your teeth without messy impressions. This technology also lets patients preview their potential results before treatment begins.

ðŸ‘Đ‍⚕ïļ

Dr. Melanie Is There —

At Every Single Appointment

At some larger practices, patients may only see the doctor at the first visit. Here, Dr. Melanie personally sees every patient at every appointment, so your care stays consistent from start to finish.

ðŸĄ

Independent, Community-Rooted,
and Here to Stay

Dr. Melanie opened the first orthodontic practice in 4S Ranch in 2007 and has built her practice around caring for local families. This is not a franchise or a chain. It is a long-standing community practice with deep local roots.

💎

A Team That Actually Gets Back to You

We know parents have a lot to juggle. Our team is easy to reach, quick to respond, and ready to help with everything from treatment questions to unexpected issues between visits.
