Dr. Melanie graduated from the University of California at San Diego with a biology degree and a teaching minor. She then got into her dream school, UCLA School of Dentistry, one of the nation’s most selective, top-tier dental schools.
She showed her passion for helping others by working as an SAT-prep instructor and representing her class as the social chair. She was elected class president during her junior and senior years and was selected to speak at graduation – a huge achievement for the student who, in third grade, was voted “Quietest Voice.”
Dr. Melanie completed her orthodontic specialty training at St. Louis University under the guidance of Dr. Rolf Behrents. The research for her thesis became a study published after her residency in a 2009 issue of Angle Orthodontist. Dr. Melanie opened the first orthodontic practice in 4S Ranch in October 2007. She is married to Dr. Jimmy Wang, a general dentist, and they have three children at Oak Valley Middle and Del Sur Elementary.
Dr. Melanie has served as a volunteer for her children’s classes, and she and Jimmy are proud Title sponsors of Del Sur Elementary.
When they aren’t at their offices or shuttling their kids around town, you can find them doing jujitsu, training for a race or relaxing at the beach.
San Diego & Rancho Santa Fe Invisalign
Invisalign is incredibly popular with patients and orthodontists in San Diego and Rancho Santa Fe and is the top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.
Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. To keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you’ll need to switch your invisible trays out for the next one in the series every one to two weeks as directed by Dr. Melanie.
The Invisalign system can only work if you follow the recommended guidelines exactly! You’ll wear the aligners 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment. If you don’t wear the aligners as directed, it can impact your results and add time to your treatment.
Invisalign can effectively correct many of the most common orthodontic issues. For some complex cases, Invisalign may not be a good option. A free consultation with Dr. Melanie in San Diego or Rancho Santa Fe will allow us to determine your eligibility for Invisalign.
San Diego & Rancho Santa Fe Braces
Traditional metal braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They’re made of metal or ceramic brackets affixed to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics.
These brackets, wires, and bands work together to apply the gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into straighter positions as long as you have regular adjustments with Dr. Melanie.
Braces in San Diego and Rancho Santa Fe are excellent for correcting complex tooth issues. Since they can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced.
Braces don’t require some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, meaning braces at our San Diego and Rancho Santa Fe office are a cost-effective orthodontic option.
