Aligner Procedure

You’ll stop by Dr. Melanie Orthodontics in 4S Ranch or Rancho Santa Fe and we’ll take low-dose digital x-rays and photos. Dr. Melanie will look at your records and perform an exam to determine if clear aligner treatment is right for you. She’ll answer any questions you have. Then, we’ll talk about what you can expect, the cost of Invisalign, TLC or Clarity, insurance and our financing options.

We offer same-day starts, so if you decide you’re ready to jump right in on your new smile, we’ll take digital impressions using our iTero scanner (no goopy molds at our practice!). Dr. Melanie will input your impressions into the software to create a 3D model of your mouth. She’ll then move each individual tooth into its ideal place directly on the model, giving her complete control over the outcome. Dr. Melanie will even be able to show you a simulation of what your new smile will look like!

3M or Invisalign will fabricate a series of custom, clear aligners made from durable, medical-grade, BPA-free plastic according to Dr. Melanie’s prescription. Or, if you opt for our in-house TLC Aligners, we’ll print them right here in our office. You’ll pick them up and then wear them for 20 to 22 hours per day, taking them out only to eat, drink, and brush and floss your teeth.

Depending on your needs, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks. As you make your way through the series, your smile will take shape bit by bit. Even though aligners don’t require adjustments, you’ll still come in for a visit every six to eight weeks to make sure your treatment is proceeding as planned.

When you take out your last set of Invisalign, TLC or 3M aligners, you’ll have straight teeth and a healthy bite. We’ll design and print a custom, clear, removable retainer just for you. Wearing a retainer will ensure your results last a lifetime and, eventually, you’ll only have to wear it at night.
